The State of Nature is a symbolic moment written by Thomas Hobbes to explain why man decides to constitute a government and live in society.

In the state of nature, all people lived like wild animals, there was no law, no property. This created an instability, since at any moment you could be attacked by another person and that person would not be held responsible since there were no laws.

So the men together decide that the best solution would be to establish a power. Hobbes calls it The Social Contract.

The Social Contract would be signed between the population and the State, which would be designated to protect and guarantee individual freedoms and private property.
