Hello, I'm a Red Cross Lifeguard, so this is right up my alley. When simply referring to the application of the AED, the next step would be to turn on the AED. However, chest compressions should have been already started and 911 should've been called by the time an AED arrives. After turning the AED on, it will give you a step-by-step instruction of how to apply and use the AED. Note that you will have to apply the AED patches to the victim while chest compressions are being performed. The chest compressions will always take precedence over AED pad placement. You will just have to work around the compression provider. I hope this helped !
