D. The people liked to be entertained. If both an amphitheater (a building for dramatic plays and sporting events) and a theater (a building where plays and dramatic performances were given) then the roman people obviously liked to have things that would entertain them. Also, the roman's historically loved to watch gladiator fights and such.
