Hinduism believes that one is born into a caste, or social status based on one’s previous life, Buddhistsdo not practice the caste system, rather they do believe that one’s past life has some determination onones future life; but it does not force them into any one social sect. This affects either religions followertoday because the use of the caste system, even though it is now outlawed, is still widespread

One major difference between the Hindus and Buddhists is that Hindus believe in the caste system whereas Buddhists are not supposed to.

Caste system (as per Hindus) assumes that everyone is born into a certain background placing them accordingly in the societal structure. There are four caste groups. Each group has its own set of rules. No marriages were allowed between two different casts (in the past).

Buddhist scriptures do not mention caste distinctions, however, all they mention is that if any person from any caste partakes in bad deeds of any kind, they are not worthy of respect.

In the past when societies were not so homogenized, the caste system demarcated the difference between different social groups. Their dressing sense, eating habits, working, and residence were often all based on their caste.

However, with the blending of cultures and the rise of lower castes or growing indifference of upper castes to allow more social benefit to lower castes, this gap or distinction was and is fading away.

Today, societies cannot thrive on a severe caste distinction-based structure as everyone is dependent on everyone irrespective of their caste. Jobs are allotted to people based on their experience and not caste.

However, this practice might still be prevalent in some sectors of society and is not completely done away with.
