Answer: d. Temperate Forests
Temperate deciduous forests are the forests which exhibit four distinct seasons. Leaves in these forests undergo different types of adaptations according to the season. Leaves change color in autumn, fall off in winters and grow back in springs. The reason behind the color change of leaves is the change in season during late autumn plants experience change in weather from summer to winter that is from hot to cold conditions. Plants stops the process of photosynthesis as it requires water. In order to prevent water loss from transpiration and photosynthesis as winter months remains dry.The chlorophyll pigment present in these leaves breaks down into small molecules. As complete chlorophyll is broken down, other pigments start to show their colors. Therefore, leaves shows yellow or red color in autumn.
