Consulates perform the same duties and provide the same services as the Embassy. The difference is that there is only one embassy per country, located in the capital. Consulates are found in other large cities. Some of these duties are:
- Provide passport, birth registration and other services to Americans abroad.
- Issue visas for foreigners to visit, work or study in the United States.
- Conduct education and exchange programs.
- Develop business partnerships between the US and the host country.
