The English Bill of Rights of 1689 is an act by the Parliament of England that sets out basic civil rights and also clarifies who is legally eligible to inherit the crown.

The granted rights to individuals include the prohibition of cruel and unusual punishment. As well as the restriction of the Crown's power to impose taxes without the parliament's approval. It also established the right of protestants to have arms.
