1) Graphing the points can be a bit tricky to start out with. Once you get how to place the points, you can calculate lines and shapes within the coordinate plane.
(2,3) - Knowing the basic idea will help you through this. (X,Y), or (Left to Right, Up and Down) If X is positive, the point will be to the right. If negative, go to the left. If Y is positive, it will be up, and if negative, place the point below the X axis.
2,3 will go 2 points to the right on the X axis and 3 points up from there.
You can use this same general idea for all the other points.
2) A. The formula for Slope is (y2 - y1/x2-x1). Those are written, not to be multiplied, but they are the coordinates, you'll put in, and I'll explain more in a second. Although this is the scientific way of looking at it, it can just be simplified to rise divided by run.
B. Plugging in the numbers will get you the following equation:
(4 - 6) / (-3 - 2)
C. Finding the slope is as simple as solving the formula.
-2 / -5
0.4, or 2/5 would be the correct answer.
3) Isolate x and y in the equation to get the intercepts of each. Let's find y first.
5x - 2y = 10
-2y = 10 - 5x
y = -5 +2.5x
Rewriting the equation to make sense will get you this:
y = 2.5x - 5
The - 5 is the only thing that's important, and -5 = the Y intercept.
Now for x:
5x - 2y = 10
5x = 10 + 2y
x = 2 + 0.4y
Again, rewrite.
x = 0.4 + 2
Your x-intercept is 2.
I hope I didn't drag on.
Hopefully this all helps you!
