It's known as the "bubonic plague". It first started in Asia, in mid 14th century. Trading was one of the main reasons it started. Fleas Once trading between Europe and Asia happened, the disease started spreading across Europe in the years of 1346-53, killing a third of the European population.

In the 1300's China had gotten infected with the black plague from rats that carried the fleas that contained the black plague. And because people weren't as sanitary as they are now. rats got into the cargo and spread more of the deadly plague. When it reached Europe it wiped out a third of a population, the most infamous people with the black plague are plague doctors. Who wore beak masks because they believed the disease was airborne.
