Soviet Union started supporting the Kuomintang in 1921 and Chinese Communist Party was ordered to signed a military treaty with Kuomintang.  In 1926 Chiang Kai-shek dismissed his soviet advisers and banned the CCP from participating in the government.  The Soviets provided help to the Chine Communist Party in 1932 when they were defeated when KMT ended the Chinese Soviet Republic. It led to the Communist parties long march. The soviet union also tried to make the Hui Muslims hostile to china.
