Question

I'm trying to write a story with a character that will slowly descend into a very heavy paranoid and psychologically messed up insanity throughout the book that is supposed to terrify the reader, and i'm not sure how to do that. Do you know what I can do that will start it out as very subtle, and then turn into a very apparent theme? If you know of a website that is informative about this kind of thing please link it in your answer

You can start it out as the Character being happy with his/her family and then slowly descend into a very heavy paranoid. Explaining for example her house is haunted and hurting her slowly or like she can't sleep because the paranoid keeps bugging her and at the end either she kills herself or the ghost kills her. either way. Also you can get the family involved by her not eating and having nightmares about her family. You can do a lot of things.
