Appomattox Court House was the site of A.)the meeting of Lee and Grant for surrender of the Confederacy.
The meeting took place the same day after the Battle of Appomattox Court House (Virginia, U.S.) had ended, which was one of the last battles of the American Civil War.
Later that day, on April 9, 1865, Robert E. Lee (leader of the Confederacy) and Ulysses S. Grant (Leader of the Union) met in The Appomattox Court House (owned by Wilmer McLean) to sign the documents in which stated the surrender of the Confederacy to the Union.
