Immigrants received benefits from settlement houses in the late 1800s and early 1900s
Settlement houses, a hallmark of the Progressive Era in the United States, benefited B: immigrants who had recently come to America. 

These houses existed primarily in urban areas where immigrants tended to initially congregate. Middle-class or wealthy individuals would live among the generally poorer immigrants in hopes of teaching them English, American customs, and helping to alleviate their impoverished status.
