At the constitutional convention of 1787, the great compromise between the large states and small states resulted in

The Great Compromise is the reason that to this day, we have a house of representatives that is based on the population of a state and the senate which is made up of two representatives per state. This was so all states could have more equal representation and feel like they have a say in things.
