I think that the importance of western European historiography in the training of contemporary historians lies in its development of integrated approach of writing history.

Historiography is defined as the writing of history based on the following factors:
1) critical examinations of sources
2) selection of particular details from the authentic materials of the sources
3)
synthesis of those details into a narrative that stands the test of critical examination

Contemporary historians must know the steps and other factors to consider in writing history. These steps and process were discovered and refined under Western European Historiography.
