In psychology, memories are retrieved in a process called recall. While I don't know what you are referring to by "two concepts," I can say that the scenario stated here is one of cued recall. This is a two-step process beginning with the detection of a sensory cue, which carries a portion of the information found in a memory. The brain then matches the "hint" provided by the cue to the actual memory from which it originated, and the whole memory can then be recalled. This process is also linked to the action of learning, whereby successive/recurring cues are used to progressively remember more about a memory because increasingly similar information is given about it.
