A break in relations between the East and West

Answer:    Break in relations between the Western and Eastern Church

Explanation:   Iconoclasm Controversy was the struggle between the adherents of the use of icons for the purpose of prayer and those who saw the use of icons for this purpose as idolatry. This Controversy that occurred in the Byzantine Empire, began in 726 AD, when Emperor Leo III publicly stood up against the use of icons for prayer purposes. This dispute lasted, with some interruptions, for almost a century and a half, and one of the consequences was a break in relations between the Western and Eastern Church, although it was a time when there was still no split in the Christian Church. In addition, because of such an attitude towards the use of icons, Byzantium lost its influence over some parts of Italy, because the Western Church never disputed the use of icons.
