In his 1945 novel Animal Farm, George Orwell introduces Old Major, sometimes known as Willingdon Beauty, as the first significant character. His "purebred" of pigs is a compassionate, grandfatherly philosopher of change who happens to be an old Middle White boar. The awful suffering of the animals on Manor Farm under the rule of Jones is addressed by Major, who also sparks ideas for a revolt. He doesn't give a specific date for the insurrection; it might happen now or in a few generations. But when he passes away three days after giving his philosopher speech, the animals quickly got to work on sparking the uprising, driving Jones and the farmhands from the property, and taking down many of his rule's infrastructural elements.
