The value for x when a point is on the y-axis (y-intercept) is zero. So, to find the y-intercept, plug zero in for x and solve the equation.
f(x) = (0-8)(x+3)
f(x) =(-8)(3)
f(x) = -24
y intercept is -24 the ordered pair is (0, -24)

To solve the problem we can use two different methods.

The y-intercept of the quadratic function is at -24.

Given to us

  • f(x) = (x – 8)(x + 3)

Method

1. By  plotting the graph

2. By substituting the value of x as 0, in the function.

Y-intercept of the function

[tex]y = f(x) = (x -8)(x + 3)\\[/tex]

Substitute x=0,

[tex]y = f(0) = (0 -8)(0 + 3)\\\\y = (-8)(3)\\y = -24[/tex]

Proof

To prove the y-intercept lies at point (0,-24y-intercept). we will plot the graph of the quadratic function, as given in the below image,

Hence, the y-intercept of the quadratic function is at -24.
