The bacterial growth is categorised into five phases - lag phase, log phase, stationary phase, decline or death phase. Lag phase is when bacteria adapts to the environment and prepares itself for growth. No major activity is seen is observed, however, it takes place in the microbe.
Log phase witnesses exponential growth, stationary phase does not see any growth but metabolism goes on. Decline or death phase occurs when bacteria has completed their life span and are now dying.
