(B). Safety. The need for safety was acknowledged as a basic human need by Abraham Maslow in his 'Hierarchy of Needs'. Safety needs represent the second tier in Maslow's hierarchy.
One of our fundamental, evolutionary requirements is safety. The majority of our choices and deeds are motivated by maintaining or improving our current conditions. Although we may not be in continual danger like early man, our need for protection for ourselves and our loved ones is no less important to us. This motivation permeates consumer and user behavior. For this reason, items must not only be presented to us with strong claims that they would shield us from risks, but also support these statements with convincing proof that they actually do provide some level of protection and/or "shelter." Let's examine how it functions and how we may include it into our own designs.
