Atp hydrolysis produces energy as a net outcome.

This process can explain what transpires during the hydrolysis of ATP and ADP::

ADP + Pi + energy = ATP + H2O

As we can see, in order to make energy, we need two things: water (which is why drinking plenty of water is so necessary), and ATP, which is also known as the "energy molecule" because when it donates one phosphate group, it releases energy into the medium.

Contrarily, in order to bind ADP and create an ATP molecule, which releases water in the process, we need energy.

In other words, ATP hydrolysis is exothermic because it releases energy. Additionally, because the ADP hydrolysis requires energy, it is endothermic
