A Member of Congress (MOC) is a person who has been chosen for, or elected to, membership in, a congress. They are usually admitted to serve as a legislator's representative for a certain constituency.
Within a parliamentary form of governance, the phrase member of parliament (MP) is identical. The phrase Member of Congress is used less frequently than other words in the United States when referring to a specific politician in their function as a member of the United States Congress, a bicameral legislature. This is so because the Senate and the House of Representatives, the two houses that make up the country's bicameral federal legislature, are collectively referred to as Congress in the United States. Because of this, and to identify who belongs to which house, a senator is commonly referred to as a senator (followed by "name" from "state").
