The Pharisees, the Sadducees, the Essenes, and the Zealots were among the four Jewish sects that we later discovered (aka the Sikarim). Because (of course, typical Jews) people disagreed on how to follow Judaism and how to live as Jews in the Roman world, various sects emerged.
