Dyslexia is thought to originate from different patterns of activation in the left hemisphere auditory and phonological processing regions.
Medically, dyslexia refers to a learning disorder which involves difficulty reading due to problems identifying speech sounds and learning how they relate to letters and words. It is also called reading disability which is as a result of individual differences in areas of the brain that process language.
The disorder is not due to problems with intelligence, hearing or vision. Most children with dyslexia do succeed in school with tutoring or a specialized education program.
Today, there is no cure for dyslexia, but early assessment and intervention result in the best outcome. Sometimes, its goes un-diagnosed for years and is not recognized until adulthood.
