The feminine mystique was written by Betty Friedan.
Betty Friedan was an early leader of the feminist movement in the United States. Her seminal book, The Feminine Mystique, published in 1963, argued that American women were lured into unfulfilled and unhappy lifestyles. They have been led to believe that their fulfillment and happiness as women come from being wives, mothers, and housewives.they indicated that they was hungry for something else. Their entire identity grew out of their roles and relationships with others within the household, rather than who they really were.
Friedan's book challenged existing patterns that existed in American society and encouraged women to have more self-worth for themselves.As she said (in Chapter 1):
"We can no longer ignore women's voices saying, 'I want something more than a husband, a child and a home.'"
