Malachite Green is used for staining bacterial spore by Schaeffer and Fulton's method. It is forced into the spores by steaming the bacterial emulsion. Safranin is a basic dye, positively charged which is commonly used for staining Gram negative bacteria red in smears to contrast with the blue Gram positive organisms. Vegetative cells will be pink, and endospores will be dark green after staining with this.
