and replaced with beachfront property. Mangroves cover over 39.3 million acres and
provide $65 billion in flood protection from hurricanes and tropical storms. It is
estimated that we lose 40,000 acres of mangroves a year'. How many protection
dollars do mangroves provide per acre and how many protection dollars are we
losing per year?
