In Van Gend en Loos v Nederlandse Administratie der Belastingen (Case 26/62), the Court stated that the laws adopted by the European institutions must be integrated into the legal systems of the EU countries, which are obliged to comply with them. Therefore, EU law takes precedence over national laws. Since 1979, Parliament has been directly elected every five years by the citizens of the European Union through universal suffrage.

The UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) consists of seven parts, a series of annexes and three protocols. It foresees a new commercial relationship between the United Kingdom and the EU now that the transition period provided for in the withdrawal agreement has ended.
