The study of the pathogen Bacillus anthracis which is a bacteria and is responsible for causing Anthrax disease served as the foundation for the germ theory of disease.
Back in the 1860s, experiments led by French chemist Louis Pasteur developed modern germ theory. He demonstrated that food spoiled because of contamination by microscopic bacteria, not because of spontaneous generation.
Later in the 19th century, Robert Koch established that a certain germ could cause a particular disease. He did this through experimentation with anthrax.
Using a microscope, Koch noticed the blood of cows that had died of anthrax. He noted rod-shaped bacteria and suspected they caused anthrax. When Koch infected mice with blood from anthrax-stricken cows, the mice also developed anthrax.
The experiments administered by Louis Pasteur and Robert Koch provided precise evidence in support of the germ theory of disease.
