Virtue ethics contrast heavily on comparison to deontology/rules or duties.

Virtue Ethics is that approach of Ethics that believes in the morality of the individual. In Virtue Ethics, it all pans down to moral values.

In deontology, the rules and duties are what matter the most. The end goal has to be achieved with full compliance o the set of rules laid down for that particular job.

Virtues are very different from rules or duties. Someone's virtue is their morality. Their duty might not always align with their virtue. For example, a thief's virtue lies in stealing even though their duty as a human is not to steal from others.
