The time period impact the character and sometimes behave differently than we do because every time period brings different development as an indication of its background and attitudes, much depends of the events happened on the era.

What's the correlation of it, and how's the example?

Time period is a fundamental of our existence. Time settings in stories sometimes shows specific references regarding dates or events, or even clothing and furniture. Much affected the characters too.

For example, in Baroque period (late 16th century to the early of 18th century) was quiet popular with its extravagant theme of art, musical, literature and the imagery is often all about metaphors, and hyperbole. Embraced through decorative arts, paintings, sculpture. The character lived in those era mostly dramatic, religious with rich-detailed descriptions. Within this period of time, the Roman Catholic Church is much regulating the produce of literature and art with religious themes.

Much different in previous period, Renaissance, is more individualistic, meanwhile Renaissance itself means "rebirth" - which means rebirth from the Dark Ages. In this period, the key of the expressions were humanism, individualism, secularism, and rationalism, with the most of story was oriented on each character and having many of real humanistic protagonist, rather than adventure stories.

Regarding to the gender role within time period, it changes over time. In Baroque and Renaissance era, female figures were less appeared than depiction of men. Mostly pictured that men were better than women. Then there common female archetypes in the society.

Even during the 1950s, the gender roles told us that men were the head of everything, the household, the family, while women were the homemaker and only cared the children and the husband. The men went to work for money and the women took care of the house, and the family. This kind of stereotype is kind of judgement that accepted widely in form of people.

But nowadays, many gender stereotypes were different from the past; and there's some new trends in society. Because the changes of social expectations regarding to each gender. However, the roles are now changing, and even reversing. This century (21st century) seen huge shift and change of gender roles because of multiple factors. And the ideas of socialism, nationalism, and women's rights transform the traditional stereotypes and expectations.
