Colonists revolted against the British because they imposed high taxes on them.

Colonialists had to pay high taxes to the king. This was not fair to them since they felt that they were paying taxes to a government where they had no representation. The colonists were forced to let British soldiers sleep and eat in their homes which were unjust.

There were several events that led to the revolution of the colonists. These include:

i)The stamp act. In order for the British to regain their huge debts left over from the war with France,  they passed a law, the Stamp Act, which taxed heavily and the Colonialists ended up boycotting British goods. Other events were the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party of 1773, the closing of the Boston Harbor, the Lexington and Concord attacks, and British attacks on coastal towns.
