one roadblock to good discipline is confusing discipline and punishment. discipline teaches the child right from wrong, while keeping their state of self-esteem and self-control. punishment temporarily restricts the child from doing a hobby (example: getting your phone taken away), but it doesn't properly teach the child what is right and what is wrong. think of it this way: discipline helps the child to learn what they did wrong, but the parent and/or guardian usually shows the right way to do it. punishment makes the child suffer for doing something wrong, but is never taught the right way.
i hope this helps! :)
