Respuesta :

Several species of fireflies are active on the same summer nights in the same fields. Males and females recognize one another by their distinctive flashing patterns. This is an example of  pre-zygotic, behavioral isolation.

Understanding Prazygotic Isolation

This Isolation occurs before fertilization occurs so as to prevent mating between individuals of different species.  Prazygotic isolation can be caused as a result of:

1. Ecological isolation (due to different habitats, for example: tree frogs and water frogs)

2. Behavioral isolation (due to differences in mating habits, for example: birds and fish)

3. Mechanical isolation (regarding differences in structure)  body and sex cell differences, for example: starfish, sea urchins, and other Echinoderms that fertilize externally)

4.Temporal isolation

This isolation occurs due to the difference in maturity time between males and females.  This causes fertilization will not occur.  For example, occurs in the species Pinus radiata and Pinus muricata.  Both will never be able to cross-fertilize because the reproductive maturity of Pinus radiata occurs in early February and Pinus unicata occurs in late April.
