In order to calculate the percent change, we just need to divide the absolute change by the initial value.

For example:

Alfred had $50, and then he spent some money and now he has only $20. What's the percent change?

The absolute change is the difference of the values:

$50-20=30$

So Alfred spent $30. In order to calculate the percent change, we divide this change by the initial amount (50):

$\frac{30}{50}=0.6=60\text{\%}$

So the percent change was 60%.

In order to round to nearest percent, we just need the percentage to be a whole value.

For example, rounding 56.24% to the nearest percent, we have 56%.
