Intensive agriculture requires cleaning large swaths of rain forest --cutting down the trees. It also requires a fair amount of human settlement. Both of these factors will, over time, result in deforestation, which is a serious problem for the health and sustenance of tropical forests.
Tropical rainforests are bad for agriculture because of the high amount of rainfall and the characteristic over porosity of the soil which makes it hard for rooting and germination.
