3 A 1-foot piece of fruit snack is cut into two pieces. One piece is 3/4 of a foot. What is the length of the other piece of fruit snack?

If a piece of fruit snack which is 1 foot long is cut into two pieces, and one part is 3/4 of a foot long, then what we have is;
[tex]\begin{gathered} Other\text{ snack=1-}\frac{3}{4} \\ \text{Other snack=}\frac{4}{4}-\frac{3}{4} \\ \text{Other snack=}\frac{1}{4}\text{ of a foot long} \end{gathered}[/tex]To arrive at 4/4 as shown in step 2, we take the LCM of both expressions.
On the left is 1/1 and on the right is 3/4. The LCM of the denominators (that is 1 and 4) is 4. Hence 1 can now be re-written as 4/4.
