The Dust Bowl was a series of severe dust storms ocurred during the years of 1934, 1936 and 1939 to 1940. Caused by the displacing of deep-rooted native grasses which would usually trap soil and moisture (even during times of high winds or drought times) due to quiclky mechanization of farm equipment, mainly tractors farmers had done plowing of the virgin topsoil of the Great Plains. The drought and erosion of the Dust Bowl affected 100,000,000 acres mainly in the states of Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico,Texas and Oklahoma.
