How do I calculate the total surface area of a compound shape ?

To find the total surface area of compound shape.
The area of one rectangle with length 18 cm and width 10 cm
[tex]A=18\times10=180sq.cm[/tex]The area of second rectangle with length 10 cm and width 4 cm.
[tex]A=10\times4=40sq.cm[/tex]The area of square with side 4cm
[tex]A=4\times4=16sq.cm[/tex]For the overlapping figure.
[tex]A=18\times7-7\times4=126-28=98[/tex]Hence the total surface area of compound shape is
[tex]180+40+16+98=334sq.cm[/tex]
