Let x be the cost of a muffin and y be cost of a carton of milk.

The cost of two muffins and and a carton of milk is $3.35. So equation is,

$2x+y=3.35$

The cost five muffins and a carton of milk is $5.60. So equation is,

$\begin{gathered} 5x+y=5.60 \\ y=5.60-5x \end{gathered}$

Substitute the value of y in equation 2x + y = 3.35 to obtain the value of x.

$\begin{gathered} 2x+5.60-5x=3.35 \\ -3x=3.35-5.60 \\ x=\frac{2.25}{3} \\ =0.75 \end{gathered}$

So cost of a muffin is $0.75.

Substitute 0.75 for x in equation y = 5.60 - 5x to obta
