The vertices of a triangle are A(1, 1), B(1, 4), and C(3, 4). Draw the figure and its reflection in (a) the x-axis and (b) the y-axis. What are the coordinates of the image?

Respuesta :

The given points are A(1,1), B(1,4), and C(3,4).

The image below shows the figure.

As you can observe, the figure is a right rectangle.

(a)

If we reflect the figure across the x-axis, we just have to multiply each y-coordinate with -1 to obtain the new points.

[tex]\begin{gathered} A^{\prime}(1,-1) \\ B^{\prime}(1,-4) \\ C^{\prime}(3,-4) \end{gathered}[/tex]

The image below shows this transformation.

(b)

To reflect the figure across the y-axis, we just have to multiply each x-coordinate by -1.

[tex]\begin{gathered} A^{\prime}(-1,1) \\ B^{\prime}(-1,4) \\ C^{\prime}(-3,4) \end{gathered}[/tex]

The image below shows this transformation.
