How do i solve this problemjust to save time the question is: “A line passes through the point (4,2) and has a slope of -5/4, Write an equation in slope-intercept form for this line”

Respuesta :

Given

[tex]\begin{gathered} point\text{ \lparen4,2\rparen} \\ slope\text{ =}\frac{-5}{4} \end{gathered}[/tex]

Solution

The standard equation of a line

[tex]y=mx+b[/tex]

Where

[tex]\begin{gathered} m=\frac{-5}{4} \\ \\ x=4 \\ y=2 \end{gathered}[/tex][tex]\begin{gathered} 2=\frac{-5}{4}(4)+b \\ \\ 2=-5+b \\ 2+5=b \\ b=7 \end{gathered}[/tex]

The equation of the line is

[tex]y=\frac{-5}{4}x+7[/tex]
