1) Looking at those players, we can write the following equations:

$\begin{gathered} x+x+16=304 \\ 2x+16=304 \\ 2x=304-16 \\ 2x=288 \\ \frac{2x}{2}=\frac{288}{2} \\ x=144 \end{gathered}$

Note that we could write that equation for one variable because all of them fit in a category: players and one is dependent on the other.

2) So, we can tell

Sanchez: x= 144 hits

Washington: x+16 = 144+16 = 160 hits
