In this problem we can write an equation for each of them when x is the cost of a single muffin and y is the total amount they spent so:

for Halilee:

$2x+1.50=y$

For Ehren

$3x+1.00=y$

Now we have two equations and two variable so we can made them equal and solve for x so:

$\begin{gathered} 2x+1.50=3x+1.00 \\ 1.50-1.00=3x-2x \\ 0.50=x \end{gathered}$

So each muffin cost 0.50 dollars
