Answer:

Variables are multiplied by multiplying the coefficients and also the variable, following certain rules.

Examples:

1. For different variables, multiply the coefficients and join the variables

[tex]\begin{gathered} 5a\times2b \\ =5\times2\times a\times b \\ =10ab \end{gathered}[/tex]

2. For similar variables, multiply coefficients, and add the indexes of veriables

[tex]\begin{gathered} 3y\times4y \\ =3\times4\times y\times y \\ =12y^2 \end{gathered}[/tex][tex]\begin{gathered} y^3\times y^5 \\ =y^{3+5} \\ =y^8 \end{gathered}[/tex]
