Jackie and Dean picked 37 and 28 flowers respectively

the sum of the flowers are

$37+28=65$

the total sum of the flowers is equal to 65

they decided to divide the flowers amongst 6 flower pot equally

to do that, we would have to consider if 65 can be divided by 6 without remainder. And if it can't we can check the last number it can divide equally without remainder and then count the remainder left.

but the last number that 6 can divide equally without remainder is 60

$\frac{60}{6}=10$

now we are left with a remainder of 5.
