The domain of a function is the set of possible input values (x-values).
The range of a function is the set of possible output values (y-values).
In the case of:
[tex]y=\sqrt[]{x-1}[/tex]The value inside of the square root must be positive, then:
[tex]\begin{gathered} x-1\ge0 \\ x\ge0+1 \\ x\ge1 \end{gathered}[/tex]The output values of the square root are always positive, then
[tex]y\ge0[/tex]
