Families were dominated by men. At the head of Roman family life was the oldest living male, called the "paterfamilias," or "father of the family." He looked after the family's business affairs and property and could perform religious rites on their behalf. 
Back the , men were to go to school and had to do military while woman had to always stay home, clean house and were specific clothing. If the woman died, the man would have to marry another girl but if the man died, the girl couldn't marry a guy. Plus, unseat more than likely happened
