During DNA replication, there are two types of errors that may occur:

- Deletion

The polymerase pails to read one or more bases from the original strand, and the newly synthesized DNA strand is shorter than its mold.

This may happen, for example, if the template strand loops out

-Insertion: this error occurs when the newly synthesized DNA strand loops out and extra bases are added:
